2015 Toyota Aygo X-Cite Version Has Us Excited

2015 Toyota Aygo X-Cite

Toyota is offering a new X-Cite version of their Aygo subcompact hatchback for the 2015 model year.

As you can see, arguably the most noticeable new feature in the Aygo X-Cite is the addition of the new Cyan Splash exterior color. That striking blue is accented with a Piano Black grille, Bold Black side mirror covers, and Glossy Black five-spoke 15” alloy wheels. Yeah, that’s a lot of different kinds of black. Of course, the wheels also get some fancy Cyan Splash center caps to complete the look.

Apparently, the X-Cite will also be available with a blacked out roof in some select European markets (pictured below).

The Cyan Splash color-scheme splashed its way into the interior as well, and we have to admit, we like it. The bright blue accents around the seats, doors, floor mats and air vents are vibrant, but not overbearing… They really seem to breathe life into the cabin. The extra color makes the car feel youthful and fun, despite a relatively minimalistic design.

However, even though the cabin looks minimalistic, it will be available with more features than ever for the 2015 model year. For example, the Toyota Aygo is now available with Toyota’s trademark Safety Sense suite of active safety technologies, including Pre-Collision System, which monitors vehicles in front of the car and automatically brakes if collision is imminent, and Lane Departure Alert, which you probably don’t need an explanation for.

Altruistically, Toyota recognizes that “it is only when such advanced safety systems are in widespread use that they can have a real impact on the reduction of traffic accidents and fatalities.” So, to contribute to the cause they’re going to make sure the Toyota Safety Sense add-on is available at a “highly competitive price”.

Thanks Toyota!

Japanese Car Auction Find – 2014 Toyota Auris

2014 Toyota Auris

Unfortunately, there are none of the new-generation Toyota Aygo models up for auction at the time of this writing. But, there are several of the hatchback’s big brother available – meet this 2014 Toyota Auris.

The Toyota Auris probably doesn’t need too much explanation. It’s Toyota’s primary hatchback offering, and as a 2014 model year, this would’ve been just two years after the generational overhaul. This particular model is a JDM Toyota Auris 150X S Package, which means it runs on a 1.5L petrol that outputs 104hp and 100 lb-ft of torque… Just enough for fuel efficient city driving.

Top 6 Japanese Cars Coming to the 2014 Geneva Motor Show

Posted by Stephen On Wednesday, March 5th, 2014

In Europe, the first hours of the 2014 Geneva Motor Show have already passed, and several new cars have already been unveiled. As the rest of the week unfolds, these are the top five Japanese cars to look out for from the 2014 Geneva Motor Show:

#1. Next-Gen Toyota Aygo

We’ve received new teasers of the upcoming Toyota Aygo since our original blog post on the new car. Just remind you, this is the car that was developed in collaboration with French auto group Peugot-Citroen, and it has a distinctly European feel to it as a result. Toyota has gone the extra mile to differentiate their city car from their French partners, however, with the Aygo getting a distinct rear end and window configuration from the Peugot 108 or Citroen C1.

#2. Mazda Hazumi Concept

This is another car that we’ve received a new teaser for since our original blog post. The concept heralds the new Mazda2 city car, which is actually a common theme throughout the Geneva motor show… Almost every car from Japanese automakers or otherwise is either a city car or a super car. That’s Europe for ya.

In our opinion, the Mazda Hazumi Concept is the single most exciting car to look out for, but that could be our indescribable bias towards Mazda speaking.

#3 & #4. New Nissan Juke & GT-R NISMO

Nissan is actually bringing two new vehicles to the Geneva Motor Show this year, although the Nissan GT-R NISMO is only making its European debut, not its worldwide one. As for the new Nissan Juke, we wrote about it here, and since then Nissan has continued to release more and more teasers through social media participation. The latest image to be teased is pictured below, this one revealing a possible sunroof:

#5 & #6. Lexus RC F Sports Coupe & GT3 Racing Concept

Lexus RC 350F Sport

Last, but not least, we have the new Lexus RC F SPORT, an extremely appealing sports coupe that’s taken influence from the old Lexus LFA supercar both in technology and design. It looks extremely promising, but if you can believe it, Lexus is actually bringing something even more appealing to go along with it.

We hinted at in our teaser post – it’s the Lexus RC F GT3 Racing Concept (below), and it’s basically a souped-up RC F SPORT coupe with shimmering holographic decals and a huge rear spoiler, along with several other performance enhancements. And it has real-world application too; Lexus plans to race the RC F GT3 in the Japanese Super GT Series later this year.

All in all, there’s a lot to look forward to from the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Stay tuned throughout the rest of the week for in-depth coverage of all the sweetest new Japanese cars from Europe’s biggest automotive event of the year.

New Toyota Aygo Teased Ahead of Geneva Motor Show Debut

Posted by Stephen On Saturday, February 22nd, 2014

As of yesterday, Toyota has officially confirmed the debut of the 2015 Toyota Aygo for the 2014 Geneva Motor Show next month.

The new Aygo is actually one of three cars jointly developed by PSA Peugeot-Citroen and Toyota, and it’s Toyota’s latest effort at attracting European drivers to their lineup.  The new Aygo aims to do this by moving upmarket, taking on a more luxurious and premium feel both inside and out.

Unfortunately, as with most teasers, Toyota hasn’t provided us with very much information about their newest city car. Other than the teaser image above and the promo video below (which hardly pictures the car at all), we have no other information to go on. However, as you continue reading, we’ll dissect every little bit of info we do have, and then we’ll take a look at some of the hints that can be gleaned from co-developers Peugeot and Citroen.

As you can see, the new Toyota Aygo keeps in line with most of what Toyota’s debuted within the past year, at least from an aesthetic perspective. Compared to the current Aygo, the new model could generally be described as more memorable. It’s got an aggressively large grille, restyled headlights with thin boomerang-style LED lamps, and of course the emphasized Toyota badge.

All in all, its exterior is quite reminiscent of the Toyota Furia Concept we saw about this time last year, albeit in compact city car form. It looks sleek, sporty and modern, all without trying too hard. At least, that’s what we can say from this darkened teaser.

We also have a very slight hint at what the new Toyota Aygo’s interior will look like thanks to the promo video shown above. If you pay close attention, you can see a sketch of the Aygo’s interior.

As far as mechanics, we know that the new Toyota Aygo will be built on the same platform as the Peugeot 108 and the Citroen C1, the Aygo’s co-developed twin siblings. It will likely bear the same engine options as the recently unveiled Peugeot 108, which comes with either a 1.0L VTi with ~68 bhp or a 1.2L VTi with ~81 bhp.

As you can see, Toyota definitely has their work cut out for them if they want to legitimately compete with European automakers for European market share. The new Toyota Aygo looks promising, but the Peugeot 108 looks amazing and the next-gen Citroen C1 is sure to be just as appealing. The C1 will debut alongside the Aygo at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of March, so stay tuned to see which car really looks better.
