Hiaces & Delicas With Caterpillar Tracks

Posted by Stephen On Friday, March 11th, 2011

There seems to be a few of these minivans with caterpillar tracks fitted in place of wheels servicing Japanese ski resorts. The 4WD mechanism drives the tracks directly providing (I assume) superlative snow driving capabilities. It seems that these are licensed to drive on the road, but I wonder how they get them through the Shaken? (They must have to remove the tracks and put the wheels back on, I guess).

Hiace VW-Minibus Lookalike

The other day I posted about how you can find Suzuki Everys customized to look like VW minibuses in the Japanese car auctions. Well today I was taking a browse around a used car sales site in Japan, and I came across this one, which reminded me that similar custom jobs are sometimes carried out on the larger Toyota Hiace vans.

Of the two, I think I prefer the Suzuki Every version, but it is a lot smaller than the original, so perhaps the Hiace one would be more practical. What do you think?
