New 2015MY Lexus IS with Upgraded Specs Revealed

Posted by Stephen On Friday, July 4th, 2014

2015 Lexus IS Sedan

Even though the Lexus IS just entered a new generation at the beginning of 2014, the premium Japanese automaker is already planning a minor refresh for the 2015 model year. Even though the exterior changes are few, as you continue reading you’ll learn that the luxury sedan’s interior has received some truly praiseworthy additions.

2015 Lexus IS Exterior & Mechanical Updates

Let’s get the powertrain changes out of the way first – there aren’t any. It’ll come with the same two engine options as this year, which include a 2.5L V6 with 204hp and a 3.5L V6 with 306hp. Everything else about power delivery from the engine to the wheels remains the same… Each trim can be had with either rear-wheel or all-weather drive, and either way you’ll get the same “finely tuned” electronic power steering from the Lexus GS.

As for the exterior, even though Lexus hasn’t released any images of the 2015MY, they assure us that the only change is the addition of new LED fog lights, presumably somewhere around the front air intakes. Not only will they look great, but they’ll also improve the car’s visibility for both the driver and oncoming traffic.

2015 Lexus IS Interior & Technology Updates

This is where the 2015 Lexus IS will get the majority of its updates. Lexus describes how “the brand’s hallmark luxury and sumptuous appointments remain intact, bolstered by cutting-edge multi-media.”

The cutting-edge technology they’re referring to here is the inclusion of Siri Eyes Free voice command, an improved backup camera with dynamic grid lines and the new Lexus Enform Remote. The Lexus Enform App will allow you to remotely control several of the IS’s different technologies from your iPhone, from the locks to the ignition to the AC and more.

As for the new luxury appointments, Lexus is probably referring to the refined interior trim. Drivers will enjoy new piano black accents and Stratus Gray upholstery for an all-around darker, classier interior design.

Finally, since the AWD Lexus IS has seen significant popularity in colder areas, all AWD IS models will now have the option of a heated steering wheel, and the AWD F Sport package will get heated and ventilated front seats. The F Sport trim also gets new unique 18-inch wheels, special suspension tuning, and several aesthetic tweaks to the interior and exterior trim. Oh, and it gets a new sound generator on the air intake to create a more “sporting” (aka. loud) engine note.

As you can see, Lexus has a plethora of upgrades lineup for their IS sedan even though it’s only been available in its current form for one year. And pricing will remain almost the same… Only $450 has been added to each price tag across the board.

Lexus Spain Unveils Limited 25th Anniversary IS F-Sport

Posted by Stephen On Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

Apparently, this is the week of 25th anniversary celebrations. A couple days ago Mazda opened up preregistration for their 25th anniversary edition MX-5 Miata, a stunning red roadster that sold out in exactly 10 minutes. Now, just across the Atlantic Ocean, Lexus Spain has unveiled their 25th Anniversary Lexus IS F-Sport at the Madrid Auto Show.

Several of our astute readers may realize that Lexus’ 25th anniversary actually fell in January of this year, but Lexus Spain decided that they wanted a bigger stage on which to show off their special edition IS F-Sport. And so, they’ve waited until now to pull the curtains off this bad boy:

Lexus IS F-Sport 25th Anniversary

Let’s do a quick rundown of all the modifications to be seen on the 25th anniversary IS F Sport…

Starting up front, the hood and roof have both been wrapped in carbon fiber for a unique, high-contrast aesthetic. You can also see the addition of new front spoilers just beneath the fog lights. Moving towards the back of the car, this IS F-Sport also features new side skirts, a rear spoiler, and a totally upgraded backend with a new quad exhaust and diffuser. Oh, and did we mention the 19-inch, ten-spoke alloy wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tires?

On top of all the exterior modifications, the 25th Anniversary Lexus IS F-Sport also gets a stiffened suspension, a Brembo brake kit, reinforced member braces and a new performance damper.

Inside, the limited edition IS F-Sport gets custom black and white leather, special 25th Anniversary badging and a red TRD start button.

Now, this is where things get a little interesting…

Even though Lexus Spain will only sell 25 units of their 25th anniversary sports car (fitting, right?), it turns out that the majority of the modifications are nothing more than a TRD bodykit. In fact, everything except for the custom leather interior and carbon fiber wrapping are standard with the Lexus IS TRD Pro mod, seen here. Even the upgraded mechanics are part of TRD’s tuning package!

The next obvious question is how much will it cost? Buying these modifications for yourself would run you around $12,500 if you went straight to the source, so it’s probably a safe bet that Lexus will sell the 25th Anniversary Lexus IS F-Sport for something like $15,000 above the normal price tag.

We have to admit that it’s a little bit odd for Lexus Spain to make a big hubbub about their 25th anniversary, and then in the end only add some carbon fiber wrapping to an otherwise already-available trim. Nonetheless, this new IS F-Sport looks great, even if we’d personally rather have one of the 25th Anniversary MX-5 Miatas that we saw yesterday.

First Photos of the 2014 Lexus IS F-Sport – We Can Finally Start Drooling

Posted by Stephen On Thursday, January 10th, 2013

If you stay intimately tuned in to the automotive blogosphere, then you may have noticed earlier today when a photo-set of the not-yet-released 2014 Lexus IS was released on a Chinese automotive news site, Official or otherwise as the photos may have been, mere hours later Lexus released the “First Official Photos of the Next Generation IS” via press release. Several additional high-resolution photos were included in the official release.

2014 Lexus IS F-Sport

Now, the 2014 Lexus IS is currently one of the most highly anticipated Japanese cars to debut at the Denver Auto Show later this month. Therefore, it’s understandable that Toyota is still keeping known details about this luxury sedan to an absolute minimum. Still, as you continue reading we are going to cover what we DO know about Lexus’ next generation sedan.

First, the newly released photos of the 2014 Lexus IS specifically portray the aerodynamically enhanced Lexus IS350 F-Sport. Informed readers may recognize the exterior design and styling of the new IS to be similar to the Lexus LF-CC concept coupe that debuted last September at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.

As for the F-Sport trim package, it includes an aerodynamic kit, more pronounced alloy wheels, a bespoke grille finish, and a lower-riding and finely-tuned suspension. Inside you’ll find a leather finish with aluminum pedals and classy black seat-stitching. The press release also tells us that the F-Sport package will be available with an exclusive new interior color-scheme, Rioja Red, which you’ll find quite appealing in the high-res photos.

Lexus Learning Lessons from the LFA

The Lexus IS F-Sport features the same driver’s meter with moving center ring that was so well received in the Lexus LFA. Every Lexus IS will be equipped with a “high quality analog clock with surface-emitting illumination” and a “Lexus-first, electrostatic switches to control the air conditioning temperature with the touch of a finger”

From the limited information that has been published about the 2014 Lexus IS, we know that the cockpit of the vehicle was also inspired by the now extinct Lexus LFA. The press release tells us that the interior of the new luxury sedan is generally sportier, and much more spacious than previous generations: “The combination of the extended wheelbase and a thinner front seat design generates best-in-class knee room and improved accessibility.” Toyota goes on to tell us that a new folding seat design will “provide expansive luggage capacity.”

Unfortunately, we don’t know very much about the actual performance of the 2014 Lexus IS. What we do know is that the model range will feature an IS 250, an IS 350, and an internationally-exclusive (as in, not North America) IS 300h – the first Lexus IS to make use of Lexus Hybrid Drive technology.

You’ll definitely want to stay tuned to the Detroit Auto Show later this month to get more information on the next generation Lexus IS sedan. From the looks of it, this is going to be another in a long line of luxury heart-throbs from a proven Japanese brand. I, for one, can’t wait to see more.
