2015 Nissan Murano Revealed Ahead of New York Motor Show

We’ve been waiting for the new Murano for almost a year now, ever since we first saw the Nissan Resonance Concept last year. The 2015 Murano will be revealed in just a couple days at the 2014 New York motor show, but Nissan has kindly provided a full preview of the new crossover in advance. Check it out:

The Nissan Murano has always been regarded as progressive for its segment, and we absolutely love this newest iteration of the Japanese crossover. It’s forgone the old “bubbly” design in favor of an edgy, linear one with an incredible amount of depth. The more time you take soaking in the new Nissan Murano, the more you will appreciate the many different design elements working in sync.

For example, notice how the V-motion grille sweeps back across the hood of the Murano directly into the A-pillar. Then, that line continues along the top of the car, nicely framing the enormous sun roof (which is one of the largest on any crossover), all the way until it reaches the uniquely disconnected D-pillar at the rear of the crossover for that “floating roof” effect.

Between the grille, the boomerang LEDs and the flattened bumper, the front clip – and the whole car – has become a fluid piece of art. That same modern aesthetic carries on throughout the rest of the car, from the tires to the wheel wells to the side sills to the rear bumper, and even into the interior.

Inside, the new Murano is clearly aiming for a much more premium feel. The materials have been upgraded, the color scheme is classier, and the whole interior has been modified to create a type of “comfortable and inviting social lounge”. At the same time, the interior has been simplified; there are reportedly 60% less buttons/dials/switches on the front dash. The Murano also gets new Zero Gravity seats for an entirely new level of comfort.

In addition to new and improved materials, the Murano’s interior will feature a host of new technologies. We don’t have the full details at the moment, but Nissan has already hinted at things like a new 8-inch multi-touch display, new NissanConnectSM mobile features, and a host of the latest safety technologies. We’ll know more after the full, in-the-metal reveal in New York.

Last, but not least, we know that the 2015 Nissan Murano will go on sale at the end of this year with a 3.5L V6 petrol engine paired to an Xtronic transmission. The powertrain will generate 260bhp, and will operate with approximately 20% better fuel economy than the outgoing model thanks to improved aerodynamics and a lighter-weight design.

It’s safe to say that the new Nissan Murano is looking really good. We know that it will be manufactured in Nissan’s Mississippi plant and will eventually make its way into 100+ different automotive markets, although it won’t for-sure make it into Europe.
