Ferrari FF: Futuristic 4WD with Z3 Coupe Styling Cues

A new Ferrari is always something to get excited about. Ferrari has been pushing the technological envelope more and more in recent years particularly with the awe-inspiring 458 Italia. This new model is replacing the 612 Scaglietti but has as much in common with its predecessor as the elegant 456 had with the preceding 412.

And that is not just in the styling department. First of all, this is the first genuine 4-seater since that 412 model that expired at the end of the 1980s. Secondly, it is the first road-going Ferrari to have a 4WD system. Of course, this being Ferrari, this is their own unique set up that they claim is 50% lighter than comparable alternatives. Throw in 620 horsepower along with the quintessential Ferrari V12 soundtrack (watch the video below to get an ear-full of that) and you have an enticing combination.

The only question left is the styling. While a 2+2 will always be less pure in design than a 2-seat coupe, the squatting-on-its-haunches side profile of the FF is a little too similar to the BMW Z3 coupe for my taste.

After watching this video, you might wonder whether F1 may not be only motorsport Ferrari is involved in in the future. WRC, anyone?
