Japanese Car Auction Find – 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo GSR

Last week we learned about a possible new Mitsubishi Lancer successor likely to come from the Renault-Nissan alliance. Unfortunately, it’s still looking like the Lancer Evolution is indeed going to cease production after the 2015MY. So, as 2014 is a quickly drawing to a close, and the current Mitsubishi Lancer Evo’s life along with it, we thought it be a good time to pay homage to the sports car’s incredible twenty-year production run.

Today’s Japanese car auction find is a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X GSR. Check it out below:

2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo GSR

As you can see, the last generation Lancer Evo has a standard, but well-done design lives up to the standard set by the likes of Subaru’s BRZ. It’s got plenty of aggressive, swooping body lines, a big and bold trapezoidal grille, hood scoops like you wouldn’t believe, and of course that extra-large GSR rear spoiler that you literally can’t miss.

But, while the Evo’s exterior may look standard next to other sports cars, its performance is anything but.
Note: If you’re a US or UK reader, keep in mind that this is the Japanese version of the Lancer Evo GSR trim. You’ll want to read the specs carefully since it’s got slightly different stats than Evo GSRs from other markets.

For starters, under the hood you’ll find Mitsubishi’s 4B11T 2.0L inline-four-cylinder turbocharged engine that allows the Lancer Evo to surge from 0 to 62 mph in a blistering 4.7 seconds. That’s because as a 2013MY, this Lancer Evo outputs a boosted 296 hp at 6500 rpm, compared to the 276 hp output at the same rev range in the original 2007 production run. In addition, Mitsubishi integrated aluminum construction into the roof panel, rear spoiler, hood and front fenders, which greatly increases the car’s acceleration potential.

Another big perk that Mitsubishi added to the X-generation Lancer Evolution is the Six-Speed Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST). This is a semi-automatic sequential transmission complete with magnesium shifter paddles mounted behind the steering wheel. These alone make the car incredibly fun to drive, and there’s a noticeable difference in driving dynamics between this transmission and the old Tiptronic fully-automatic transmission used in previous generations.

Here are some other performance specs you’ll enjoy in this 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo GSR:

  • Yokohama advanced sport tires w/ Enkei high-rigidity twelve-spoke alloys
  • Brembo high-performance ventilated brakes
  • Upgraded Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) 4WD system

The interior is also flush with amenities, including:

  • Automatic air conditioning
  • Plush cloth bucket seats
  • Mitsubishi Motors Communication System – a 7-inch LCD screen with 30gb storage for on-board audio and navigation
  • Rockford Fosgate premium sound system
  • Automatic, powered windows

You’ll also enjoy Mitsubishi’s top-notch security suite, which notably includes a Standard Engine immobilizer and an extra-loud security alarm.

All in all, it’s easy to see why the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution made it through over 20 years and 10 generations of production.
