Japanese Car Auction Find – 2014 Lexus RC F

You may remember our earlier post when we learned that the Lexus RC and RC F might not be the only new models inspired by the Lexus LF-CC, LF-LC and LF-C2 concepts we’ve seen successively over the past few years. You can go back and read more that here if you like, but all that talk about Lexus sports cars gave us automotive cravings. So, today we’re going to dive headfirst into this eye-catching 2014 Lexus RC F with a deep Obsidian paint job:

Honestly, it was a little surprising to find the RC F already up for auction, since it’s only been available in Japan in the second half of 2014 and is only now making its way to US shores. Yet, here it is –another example of the caliber of vehicles to be found inside the Integrity Exports Japan car auction system. Given the newness of the car, and the relatively low mileage, it is quite likely that this vehicle was used as a demonstrator.

As the most track-oriented model in the Lexus RC range, the RC F includes several performance improvements over the other RC models. Chief among them is the massive 5.0L Atkinson cycle V8 engine (code 2UR-GSE) that powers the monstrous coupe with 467 hp. Driving that power to the 19-inch forged alloy wheels, an automatic 8-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission, aided by a Torque Vectoring Differential (hence the TVD on the auction sheet) and a vertical G-sensor to integrate with Toyota’s specialized handling software, VDIM.

Of course, with an engine as blisteringly powerful as the one in the RC F, you’re going to need some extra cooling. That explains the vented hood at the front of the vehicle, and two sets of cooling vents integrated into the front fender. Lexus also tuned the underbody with aerodynamic under covers and stabilizing fins to optimally at manipulate airflow underneath the vehicle. There’s even an active rear spoiler built into the trunk, which automatically deploys at speeds over 50 mph and retracts at speeds less than 25 mph.

Moving into the cockpit, you can see clear proof that the RC F was developed and tested on the renowned Nürburgring track. The form-fitting seats are high-backed with excellent grip, and those in the RC F are upholstered with comfortable perforated leather. The aluminum and black carbon fiber accents throughout the interior reinforce the lean, purposeful feel, but the orange accents along the seats and the thick-grip performance steering wheel remind you that this is a car meant for fun.

Honestly, an entire blog post could be written solely about the fine-tuning that went into the Lexus RC F’s driving dynamics, much less the car’s design, interior and technology. That’s why Lexus’ official press release for the RC F is literally 20 pages long. You can read it for yourself here.
