Japanese Car Auction Find – Toyota Mark X 350S GS
You may remember at the end of the last post when we looked at the new Toyota Mark X Yellow Label edition. You’ll also remember that while we pined over the electric yellow sports sedan, we also pointed out the fact that there will be no sales of this JDM car in the US or Europe.
But that’s not 100% true. You can always buy from Japan and have us export cars like the Mark X to your country. A quick search for the Toyota Mark X yielded 171 different results, ranging from the original 2004MY to a fresh-off-the-lot 2014 model. Today’s auction find falls a bit closer to the latter – it’s a 2013 Toyota Mark X 350S Gs. However, there is one trait in particular that sets of this car apart from the rest.
Can you see what it is?
I’ll give you a hint – look at the roof. You might be able to see it better from the rear:
See it? For 2013, Toyota offered a Mark X 350S Gs Carbon Roof edition which features – you guessed it – a crisp, black carbon fiber roof. This not only looks sleek, but also increases the car’s efficiency by reducing the overall road weight. Toyota also added custom black 18” split-spoke alloys and a redesigned mesh grille to complement the car’s seamless roofline.
However, while the carbon fiber roof certainly distinguishes this Mark X from the rest, keep in mind that the 350S model was already top of the line. The “S package” available for the Mark X 250 and 350 adds a significant amount of sporty appeal to the premium sedan. Looking at the rearview image above, you’ll notice that the exterior features a slight rear spoiler, a rear diffuser and twin exhausts. Also, you wouldn’t know it without a reference, but the front and rear bumpers were re-sculpted for the S package models.
Under the hood, all Toyota Mark X 350S’s – with or without the Carbon Roof – run on the same engine as that found in the Lexus GS 350 and IS 350. However, Toyota’s in-house tuning firm Modellista added a custom supercharger to the 3.5L V6 to create the Mark X +M Super Charger. All told, the car outputs a hefty 355bhp and 367 lb-ft of torque.
