Japan's New Car Sales in April 2011 Down 60%?

Japanese media is reporting that new car registrations in April 2011 are likely to be down about 60% on the same period last year. The immediate shock of the March 11th earthquake, followed by the parts supply and production problems following that are most likely to be to blame.

Measured on April 20th, it looks like the overall drop is going to come in around 58%, which would make it the biggest drop ever.
