Lexus RC Coupe and Lexus LF-NX Turbo Concept Previewed for Tokyo
Today, Lexus officially confirmed that they will be showing the long-anticipated Lexus RC Coupe at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show which takes place later this month. But, that’s a not the only car that they will be showcasing… They’re also bringing back the Lexus LF-NX Concept from this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, but with a new sportier twist.
As you continue reading, you’re going to learn everything we know about the Lexus RC Coupe, and we’ll quickly fill you in on the changes Lexus has made to their experimental LF-NX Concept.
Let’s start with the juicy stuff first…
Brand-New Lexus RC Coupe(s)
Lexus is bringing not one, but two trims of their two-door RC Coupe to the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. However, don’t get too excited because the only difference between the two is engine specifications – the Lexus RC 350 will get a 3.5L V-6 while the RC 300h will get a hybrid powertrain with a 2.5L engine.
Why doesn’t the RC 300h get a 3.0L engine as the name would imply? Nobody knows. Perhaps it’s all part of a Lexus plan to emulate BMW — 323i anyone?
Fortunately, the RC Coupe looks good enough to forgive any naming discrepancies. The two-door gets an extra-wide and extra-low pinched Lexus-style grille, a new three-lamp LED headlight configuration, and two different aluminum wheel styles (19-inch 10-spoke/18-inch 5-spoke). In addition, the RC will showcase a new painting process which apparently enriches and deepens the exterior colors, or so Lexus claims.
You can take a look at the Lexus RC from the rear below:
As for the inside, the Lexus RC Coupe gets “high contrast interior trim” with bold design lines, wooden highlights, and bottom-up interior lighting. And, of course, the new RC coupe will feature the latest in Lexus technology, including a new Remote Touch interface. Finally, RC drivers will cruise in comfort as the Coupe features seats made from a unique “integrated foaming construction method”, which apparently mimics the comfort and support of seats in race cars.
What’s New with the Lexus LF-NX Concept?
As you may or may not recall, we first saw the Lexus LF-NX concept earlier this year at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show. However, in an effort to get more mileage out of it, Lexus is bringing back the LF-NX with a slight twist – a turbocharged 2.0L engine. While the original concept featured a regular 2.5L engine with 156bhp, we have no idea what the new turbocharged version will output. But, we do know it will offer “guaranteed power” and better fuel economy.
What the heck is guaranteed power? And how does it differ from good ol’ regular powwwweeeerr? Nobody knows.
Other than the engine, the Lexus LF-NX Turbo doesn’t seem too different than the original, although Lexus claims that it has a lower center of gravity and an overall sportier look. For example, the experimental SUV now features a front under spoiler and more muscular wheels.
All in all, both new Lexus vehicles look like they’re going to be very drool-worthy, and we can’t wait to see more. Stay tuned for further updates ahead of the 2013 Tokyo motor show which opens doors later this month on November 22. Until then, thanks for reading!
