Nissan Slow Rolls the New Nissan Juke Ahead of Geneva

To build hype for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, Nissan has released a single, vague teaser photo of their new Nissan Juke. At first glance, the photo doesn’t give us very much insight into the upcoming debut. In fact, it looks more like a Persian rug. However, with a bit of in-depth examination, our image processing scientists have been able to form a more accurate picture of Nissan’s redesigned B-segment crossover.

Before we go any further, though, let’s make sure you know exactly what we’re comparing the teaser to. Below you’ll find an up-to-date picture of the 2014 Nissan Juke:

As you may know, the Nissan Juke originally launched back in 2010, and since then it has gained an avid following especially among European drivers. A highly advanced powertrain, excellent drivability, an above-average interior and, most importantly, a distinctly alluring aesthetic have all helped make the Juke one of the most beloved new cars, Japanese or otherwise, of the past decade.

So, what does Nissan want to do with the new Nissan Juke?

According to the press release, Nissan is promising “even more striking design, improved efficiency and enhanced refinement,” as well as, “advanced technology and greater practicality.” At the risk of setting the bar too high, it sounds like the new Juke will be better in every way than the outgoing model.

Nissan has also added an interesting twist to this teaser. In an ingenious marketing move, the Japanese automaker will allow its fans to “interact with Nissan on social media to ‘earn’ and ever clearer glimpse of the exciting new crossover.”

In other words, as people retweet/like/share Nissan’s content on their respective social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), Nissan will offer more and more information about the new Juke.

Today, just one day after the original image, Nissan has already gotten enough social action to warrant a second teaser. This one showcases the rear of the vehicle, something which was completely obscured in the first image.

Between the two teaser images, we can glean a couple important points about the new Nissan Juke…

First, it appears that most of the aesthetic changes will be to the front and rear of the vehicle. The crossover’s side profile as seen in the first teaser looks largely identical to the 2014MY. However, those changes to the front and rear will make the car even more distinct, even more aggressive, than its current design. Already we can see enlarged wheel arches, plus a more muscular rear bumper and taillight configuration.

As far as powertrains go, the current Juke features a 1.6L four-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged engine paired with a CVT (although a manual transmission is available with FWD-only). This is actually a pretty advanced engine for a non-premium brand, so we expect even more from the new Nissan Juke next week.
