Subaru Levorg Prototype & Other Subies Coming to the Tokyo Motor Show

We have a nice assortment of automotive candy for you here today as we review Subaru’s confirmed lineup for the upcoming 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. The lineup includes three world debuts and a few Japanese premiers.

We’ve got a lot of new Japanese cars to cover, so let’s get started!

Subaru LEVORG Prototype

Subaru Levorg - Tokyo Motor Show

First off, let’s talk about the name. Pronounced like “le -vôrg”, it’s intended to fuse the words “legacy”, “revolution” and “touring”, although you’ll have to stretch your imagination to figure out how.

The LEVORG prototype is intended to “transcend categorization” by actualizing “driving enjoyment and peace of mind at a higher standard”. And admittedly, it does have a nice selection of sporty characteristics, such as aggressively sculpted fender flares, wraparound LED headlights and prominent front air scoops for engine cooling purposes.

Specs-wise, the LEVORG will get a new version of Subaru’s iconic boxer engine: This one is a 1.6L direct-injection turbo with unspecified horsepower. It also gets next-generation features such as improved EyeSight pre-crash braking.

The Subaru LEVORG Prototype will likely yield a very drivable vehicle in a reasonably stylish package. But, for the time being, it really needs a better name.

Cross Sport Design Concept

Much like the LEVORG, the Cross Sport Design Concept is designed to combine both sportiness and utility in a way that drivers have never experienced before. According to the press release, it’s the result of “what Subaru perceives to be the next trend in urban SUVs.” In other words, it’s Subaru’s contribution to the current subcompact crossover craze that’s been one of the auto industry’s major focuses throughout 2013. It’ll slot right beneath the XV Crosstrek.

There’s no image for this concept, but there used to be a Subaru Forester Cross Sport. It’s probably safe to say that this concept will look like a miniature Forester, perhaps with some sporty goodies like a hood scoop.

Subaru Crossover 7 Concept

The Subaru Crossover 7 Concept is a large seven-seat crossover (as the name implies) that will attract drivers with a “sophisticated urban look” evoking a perfect mixture of rugged and elegant. It will get a 2.5L boxer paired with a CVT, all connected with a symmetrical AWD system.

Remember earlier this month when we discovered Subaru’s plans to discontinue the Tribeca in 2014? At the time, we also learned that Subaru would produce a Tribeca replacement, and the Crossover 7 looks like it’s going to be that vehicle. From the looks of it, you can expect this concept to be a sportier, more refined Forester.

Unfortunately, that’s all we have for new Subaru concepts. However, the above certainly aren’t all the vehicles to be on display at Subaru’s booth this coming Tokyo Motor Show. Keep checking in here to get all the latest Subaru, Tokyo Motor Show 2013 and Japanese car news.
