Toyota To Ramp Up Production This Fall

Toyota Japan is planning on ramping up production this Fall to compensate for production problems caused by the earthquake earlier in the year. As the supply chain gradually comes back online, Toyota has been looking at how to mitigate the lower levels of production during Spring.

It has decided that the best way to catch up is by boosting production starting in the autumn. The plan is to add another 10 to 15 production days to the schedule during that period. These would be days that the plant would not usually be scheduled to be in operation.

Personally, I had been wondering whether the car makers would be considering continuing running plants during the Obon holiday time during August, but perhaps the supply situation will not be completely sorted out by then, which is why they are postponing this increased production until the fall.
