Aucnet Car Auctions

Aucnet used car auctions are held weekly on Mondays in Japan. Aucnet auctions differ from the other used car auctions in Japan in that there is no specific location where these auctions are held. Learn more here.

Unlike all the other Japanese car auctions, Aucnet has no centralized kaijo (auction location) where all the cars are gathered to be sold. Instead, Aucnet sells used cars that are on the premises of used car dealerships throughout Japan. Aucnet claims a network of 7,000 dealers throughout Japan who participate in their auctions, so in that sense you could say that they have the largest number of auction locations of any Japanese car auction house.

The upshot is that with Aucnet you tend to get nicer cars (these are, after all, the cars that the dealers are actively also trying to sell to the public on their lots) that are graded relatively more strictly.

On the other hand, you have to remember that these are cars that are still in the dealers' yards. What does that tell you? Well, it means that the dealer is still has some hope that he will be able to make a sale to an end consumer (at a higher price). Once he sends the car off to an auction location (like a USS auction), then the car is gone and he has given up hope of selling to a private buyer. If he is selling the car through Aucnet it means that he hasn't given up on making a higher price sale, so he isn't going to settle for a low offer through the auction.

So if you are after particularly nice vehicles and are prepared to pay slightly higher prices as a result, Aucnet car auctions on Monday can be a good place to get them.
