Car Inspections and Certifications

Some countries require imported cars to pass an inspection test prior to being exported from Japan. The two main certification providers are JEVIC and QISJ. Most countries do not require certifications like these, but if you are not sure, check your country’s import regulations.

JEVIC Roadworthiness Inspection

This inspection is used for countries such as Uganda and Zambia. The major factors covered are:

Vehicles that pass the test receive a certificate like the sample one on the right.

QISJ Roadworthiness Inspection

QISJ carries out roadworthiness inspections of vehicles to be shipped to Kenya under Kenya Bureau of Standards KS1515:2000 Standards.

Vehicles are tested for compliance with the age limit rules, roadworthiness requirements, to make sure they are RHD, to ensure odometer readings are accurate and to ensure that radiation levels are below a certain limit.

(Note that all cars are subject to radiation tests before leaving Japan anyway. The maximum permitted levels are very low, but the numbers of cars failing is also very low.)

Does Integrity Exports arrange for inspections?

If we know the car is going to a country that requires inspections, we will make the arrangements automatically.

Of course, since compliance with import regulations is your responsibility, it is also a good idea if you remind us, too.

Are these inspections included in in Integrity Exports’ charges?

These are not included in our standard export package as they are only applicable to vehicles being exported to certain countries. However, we do not charge any additional fees of our own over and above the cost of arranging certification for you. (We make our money through our commission, not by padding out other charges like these inspection costs).

Please contact us to find out more about charges for these inspections.
