Odometer Inspection and certification

Cars bought from Japanese car auctions can often have surprisingly low mileage considering their age. This is one of the attractions of buying used cars from Japan. However, it can give you a different headache -- how to convince your customers that the mileage really is genuine.

Low Mileage

There's a fact that the Japanese tend to drive fewer kilometers than drivers in other countries. For example, the vehicle was first registered in Japan in 1980, and yet has less than 50,000 KM on the odometer.

When you come to sell your cars, you could find that your buyers are having difficulty believing that the low mileage on the odometer really is accurate.

In other words, you could be frustrated to find that one of the top selling points of your cars -- their low mileage -- suddenly becomes a liability that holds back potential customers. It may just seem to be too good to be true.

If that is the case, we have the perfect solution for you -- JEVIC Odometer Certification.

What is JEVIC?

JEVIC stands for Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Center Co., Ltd. and is a company that specializes in pre-shipment inspection of vehicles. They are actually the government-approved pre-shipment inspectors for all vehicles going to Uganda and Zambia.

One of the services JEVIC offers is odometer inspection and certification.

JEVIC Odometer Inspection

JEVIC’s odometer inspection service not only looks at documentation that is available about the vehicle, but also involves a physical inspection of the vehicle itself for signs of tampering.

A vehicle that passes will receive a certificate like this sample on the right.

Should I get a JEVIC odometer inspection done?

Whether we arrange a JEVIC odometer inspection for your cars or not is entirely up to you. Just tell us when you buy a car whether you need it or not.

Some customers find these certificates to be such a powerful tool in their sales arsenal that they ask us to have every car they buy inspected. Other customers only ask for odometer inspections to be performed on cars with unusually low mileage. Then there are other customers who do not use this service at all.

It really is up to you! All we ask is that you ask us within a day or two of buying the car at auction.

How much does this cost?

This JEVIC odometer certification service is not included in our standard export pack, but we also do not take any extra fees to make the arrangements for you either. The per car JEVIC fee of 6,000 JPY is charged directly to you as part of the total FOB price.
