Gordon Murray Design has forged a new technical partnership with chemical specialist Toray Industries to develop Murray's innovative iStream manufacturing system.
The two companies will also work together on R&D, as well as exploring further opportunities for Toray's materials in the automotive sector.
There will be a particular focus on research into lightweight hybrid chassis structures, the use of carbonfibre and other key materials in volume production, the further development of structural thermoplastics, advanced crash structures and automotive safety.
The partnership is the next step in a relationship that began when Toray commissioned Surrey-based GMD to design, tool and build a prototype two-seat electric sports car, the Teewave AR.1, which was unveiled at the Tokyo motor show in December.
Murray said: “Working with Toray on the Teewave programme was a great platform to launch a technical partnership from. We look forward to working together with Toray on many more ground-breaking technology programmes."

God that looks bad, like two cars morphed together.

Re: Murray and Toray join forces
Pity they forgot to get a design house involved. That really does look like the kind of Sh*tbox they would arrive in on a modern version of Chockablock.
Here's the original for reference.

And to think I actually wanted one of these when I was little. It makes the Sinclair C5 design look sophisticated.

Teewave AR1 !
What a wonderful looking car!
Make it, with some decent petrol engine, don't be a fool with the batteries!

Re: Murray and Toray join forces
Is this a re-bodied Tesla ? I think it looks OK, but needs a petrol engine to make it viable.
Wonder if a 1.8 litre Toyota motor would fit .....

Re: Murray and Toray join forces
iStream seems to have cornered the market when it comes to innovatively built ridiculous looking cars.

Re: Murray and Toray join forces
When Murray gets round to showing us his final sports car design you can be sure it will resemble a Lotus. He has always made plain his admiration for that company's philosophy. And he will produce a version that can be propelled by petrol or electricity. He knows the future and understands what is needed to meet it head on.

I think success is at last on the way for Gordon Murray Design. Have a look at Toray website

A company that does not do failure and has the ability and finance to put the iStream methodology into production.
Gordon Murray has consistently said his ideas are unlikely to attract an established Automotive OEM who are too entrenched in current methods.
