Does the Prado use the 4Runner 4.0L V6, GX460 4.6L V8, or an entirely different engine?

There is a thread in the 2nd gen GX forum with renderings of the refreshed '14 GX460 with the spindle grille and what looks to be LED headlights. The rear looks just like this one though. Looks pretty good.

I saw the GX pics and i still think the LX looks better. I have to say though, the updated GX looks much better without those weird frog eye shaped headlamps!
The Prado comes with four engine choices
4.0 L V6 1GR-FE petrol 271hp ( 5 speed auto 6 speed manual )
2.7 L I4 2TR-FE petrol 160hp
3.0 L I4 1KD-FTV diesel turbo 170hp
3.0 L I4 5L-E diesel 94hp

The Prado uses the same 4.0L V6/tried-and-true 5AT that our 4Runner gets, plus a couple diesel 4-cylinders that we don't get.

Also, the GX400 in China uses the same drivetrain as the Prado/US 4Runner LTD.

The Prado and 4Runner are about 95% the same.

OP, this is a great find. I wonder if the GX will get LED/HID combo headlights as standard on the base model (HIDs are currently an option on the US base model).

since when are prado and 4runner the same? 4runner uses simplified chasis, only 4runner that had same suspension as Prado was v8 with awd... maybe in russia and midle east there are simple Prados but ours was always awd with 190hp diesel and optional rear AVS suspension... we also get some nice features like all around view that also works when off roading...

Exactly what i meant....

The 5G4R/PRADO150/GX460 use the same underpinnings, its just the options and different suspension/4wd/transfer case options that vary. Some models are very similar and share the same systems...and others vary depending on the model grade...

Gotta say, that does remind me of that. When Toyota wants to make an ugly vehicle they sure know how to do it. Toyotas overseas cars and trucks were always a little conservative, I liked them like that.

4Runner is probably closer to Hilux than Prado... They are very different vehicles, Prado is simplified GX basically... they are all based on variation of some kind of LC platform but are very different vehicles.

The 5GEN4R, PRADO150, GX460 are all based on the same basic platform.
Hilux is an older frame. The new Hilux should use a similar frame to the newer light duty Toyota utility vehicles. Its interesting to see what they will do with the new Hilux..I'm guessing the redesign is coming in 2014 ?

The Fortuner ( sold overseas ) is based on the HILUX .

The current generation Prado, 4Runner and GX are all related, they are all built off the same chassis and platform. Parts from all three are scattered across the line. The only exclusive thing that is of imporrance is the 4.6.

In realilty, the current FJ, Land Cruiser, Prado, GX and 4Runner are some what related somehow. For example, the 4.6/6speed in the GX is the same as the 4.6/6speed in the Land Cruiser. Even the Chinese GX400 uses the same 4.0 as the Land Cruiser 4.0 in select markets.
