2013 Subaru BRZ up for Auction in Tokyo
After yesterday’s article about the possibility of a Scion FR-S sedan variant, I decided to poke around our easy-to-use online Japanese car auction system to see if there were any GT86/FR-S/BRZ coupes for sale. As it turns out, there are! It took me a little less than 60 seconds to login and uncover this blue beauty – a 2013 Subaru BRZ Premium up for auction in Tokyo.
Before we go over this particular BRZ’s auction sheet, let’s quickly review the stats for the 2013MY coupe.
First off, you probably already know that the Subaru BRZ is one of three coupes jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, often referred to as the Toyobaru triplets. But, you might not know how the Subaru BRZ differs from the other two models. In comparison to the Toyota GT86 and the Scion FR-S, the BRZ has its own bumper design, a unique hexagonal grille and LED headlight design, along with its own suspension.
As you read through customer reviews, you’ll find that the Subaru BRZ is often regarded as the most mature and well-refined of the three coupes because it’s got the cleanest design with superior tuning. Without going into special edition models, it’s also known for having the best interior with a 6.1 inch LCD, all the standard tech. features and a booming audio system. Whereas the FR-S is known for its wild-riding oversteer, the BRZ is known for its phenomenal steering and perfectly balanced handling.
Under the hood, you’ll find that the 2013 Subaru BRZ uses an FA20 Boxer engine; a screaming 2.0L flat-four with 200hp and 151 lb-feet of torque, capable of 0-60 in ~6 seconds with a top speed of 145mph. Obviously, this isn’t the most power you’ve ever seen in a sports car, but it’s a perfect power-to-weight ratio and it allows the BRZ to achieve a modest 22mpg in the city and 30mpg on the highway. This is partly due to a relatively low curb weight, but it’s also thanks to an exceptionally aerodynamic design with sleek underbody paneling.
Of course, the Subaru BRZ isn’t perfect for everyone… It’s cited as one of the shortest 2+2 coupes in its class which means it’s got a pretty tiny back seat. It also doesn’t have much in the way of trunk space with only 7 cubic feet of storage. However, the front seats are plenty spacious – even a tall guy should have plenty of head room. As you can see, it’d be nearly impossible to manufacture a sports coupe without these downsides, so it’s really not fair to call them ‘downsides’ at all. If you want minivan interior space, go buy a minivan …
We’ll go through a full overview of this particular Subaru BRZ’s auction sheet below, but I can already tell you that you’re going to be pleased. It’s got a nearly immaculate exterior with a Grade A interior and an overall grade 4.5 rating. This is probably because it’s only traveled 6,390 kilometers since its manufacture in 2013. This BRZ also features a six-speed manual transmission (mandatory for any true enthusiast), and a classic indigo blue paintjob.
