Nissan and Daimler Team Up for New Infinti – Production to Be Outside Japan
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn announced that new Infiniti models would be based on a platform developed jointly with Daimler Benz at a joint news conference with the Daimler chairman at the Frankfurt auto show. He also stated that the new models would be produced outside Japan to avoid the strength of the Yen damaging cost competitiveness. It is not clear where production will be relocated to, but reports say it is likely to be to a location or several locations in Europe or China.
Daimler already has a partnership to develop EVs with Nissan’s sister company Renault, so the partnership with Nissan’s Infiniti brand is a logical extension of this.
