Nissan Launches New Lafesta Highway Star in Japan

“Lafesta Highway Star” is a bit of a mouthful, so much so that a journalist at the launch even asked what it meant. Well, “Lafesta”, as we know, is Nissan’s model name for its minivan series, and then apparently “Highway Star” refers to the bofy kit fitted to it.

It all seems a bit convoluted to me – especially as this is basically a rebadged Nissan version of Mazda’s Premacy. To addle consumer brains further, the original Lafesta model is still being produced, so actually the “Highway Star” designation does not simply refer to the additional body kit, but also differentiates this completely new model from the original Lafesta.

Why Nissan did not just choose another name, or phase out the older Lafesta in favor of this new model, I have no idea. At least the name does not quite match the silliness levels of other Japanese vehicle model names – the Mitsubishi Fuso Super Great truck surely is still the front runner there.
